Establishment

The Department of Mathematics was established in 1992 under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences. It admitted its first undergraduate students in 1997. The department offers a four-year undergraduate program through formal education. It consists of five divisions: Analysis and Function Theory, Geometry, Applied Mathematics, Algebra and Number Theory, and Topology. Our department is innovative, contemporary, and follows technological developments in its field, with increasing success in recent years.

About the Department

Mathematics is classified both among the humanities and the natural sciences. Its inclusion in the humanities stems from its being taught as a humanistic discipline for over two thousand years. As a continuously expanding field, mathematics offers more new, challenging, and opportunity-rich areas of discovery than at any other time in its long history, requiring new techniques and ideas. Its place among the natural sciences is well known. The physical and natural sciences have always relied on mathematics for the techniques needed to investigate the outcomes of scientific theories. In recent years, social scientists have increasingly valued advanced mathematics in their teaching and research.

The aim of the Department of Mathematics at Manisa Celal Bayar University is to convey mathematical knowledge and apply it to individual and societal life. The department emphasizes scientific thinking, as it trains scholars capable of academic work in both theoretical and applied areas of mathematics. It focuses on the student as an individual and aims to develop their intellectual curiosity, creativity, ability to use technology in mathematics, and capacity for accurate, logical, independent, and intuitive thinking.
